Primary Election on August 7, 2007

I was just advised that there are twelve candidate submissions for this years city council election. All four incumbents, and eight newcomers, have submitted the necessary paperwork for the fall election. Because there are more than eight people running for four positions, the city charter requires a primary election. This primary election will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 and only the top eight candidates will move on to the fall general election.

I am delighted about the new interest in the business of the city and further delighted by the candidate response. Regardless of who is elected this fall, the city will be better off by the competition for those spots. New candidates will bring new ideas and will question the status quo. Incumbents should be forced to review their positions and be more sensitive to the needs of the community, because clearly the record number of candidates is sending a message that the citizens are not happy with the status quo.

Let’s all roll up our sleeves and get to work on our campaigns!
